One of the biggest struggles as an elementary music teacher is figuring out a way to reduce the amount of clicks needed for students to get done online assignments. I tried, unsuccessfully, to have elementary students use certain "smart" software tools for their at home practice but it proved to be clunky and prohibitive. This year, I've discovered the power of Google Slides as a "design tool" rather than a presentation tool. Am I late to the party? Probably. But, drawing on my graphic design experience (pun intended), I've been able to make interactive lesson book pages and worksheets that house ALL of the necessary materials in one spot. This is an example of some exercises we use in our band classes to develop note reading skills. I made in my own backing tracks to these etudes to make them particularly entertaining for the kids to jam to.
